  4. Activity 1 Design reading scales questions for your partner. You will need to give them some measurements to help them and an arrow showing the measurement needed.

  5. Activity 2 Design word questions to go with the scales. How much/many more...? How much is left...? How much water is needed to make...? What is the difference between...?

  6. This is the scale on the side of a measuring jar. There is some coloured water in the jar. How much more water is needed to make 2 litres?

  9. There is a fence which is 20 metres long. The wind blows 150 cm of it away. How much of the fence is left? The information is in metres and centimtres it will make it easier to work out if I change it all to one measurement. 20m = 2000cm What operation is the question asking us to use? subtration What will the calculation look like? 2000 - 150 What is the answer, with the unit as well? 1850 cm or 18.5m

  10. There are 3 balls of cotton. Each of pieces of cotton are 3 metres long. How many cm of string are there altogether? The information is in metres, the answer need to be in cm, so we need to covert the information first. 3m = 300cm What operation is the question asking us to use? multiplication What will the calculation look like? 3 x 300 What is the answer, with the unit as well? 900 cm

  11. There are 3 rolls of wrapping paper. Each roll has 1.5 m of wrapping paper on it. How many cm is there of wrapping paper altogether? The information is in metres and the answer needs to be in cm I will need to convert the m into cm. 1.5m = 150cm What operation is the question asking us to use? multiplication What will the calculation look like? 150 x 3 What is the answer, with the unit as well? 450 cm
