  3. What is C-ID? A system to replace and expand on CAN • a supra-numbering system • a response to mandates & needs • a published set of course descriptors www.c-id.net

  4. is: • Intersegmental • Faculty-driven • Voluntary • And its new role --- implementing SB 1440

  5. “Descriptors” • Identify the essential, common components of a course • Provide enough detail to serve as the basis for articulation • Inform course updates • Permit identification of comparable courses • Provide consistency for the TMC

C-ID Descriptors ExampleBUS 140 Proposed C-ID Number: BUS 140 Title: Business Information Systems, Computer Information Systems Discipline: Business Approval Date: February 5, 2012 General Course Description: Examination of information systems and their role in business. Focus on information systems, database management systems, networking, e-commerce, ethics and security, computer systems hardware and software components. Application of these concepts and methods through hands-on projects developing computer-based solutions to business problems.

Laboratory Activities (if applicable): Course Objectives: At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to: 1.Describe existing and emerging technologies and their impact on organizations and society. 2.Demonstrate an understanding of the development and use of information systems in business. 3.Solve common business problems using appropriate Information Technology applications and systems. Methods of Evaluation: Evaluation will include hands-on projects and a combination of examinations, presentations, discussions, or problem-solving assignments.

  12. Senate Bill 1440 • Mandates “associate degree for transfer”(AA-T and AS-T) • Offers benefits for students & faculty

Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements: • A student must complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the CSU that consist of • IGETC or CSU GE Breadth • a major or area of emphasis of at least 18 units, as defined by the CCC • No additional local graduation requirements may be required • Minimum GPA of 2.0

  14. “the CSU shall guarantee admission with junior status” • “. . . does not guarantee admission for specific majors or campuses” • “priority admission ---to local CSU campus and to a program or major that is similar . . . as determined by the CSU campus”

  15. “The CSU may require a student transferring pursuant to this article to take additional courses at the CSU so long as the student is not required to take any more than 60 additional semester units or 90 quarter units at the CSU for majors requiring 120 semesterunits or 180 quarter units.”

  16. “The CSU shall not require students . . . to repeat courses that are similar to those taken at the CC that counted toward the associate degree for transfer.”

  27. For Consideration • CSUs DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT TMC • Could require additional/different course work • May give a bump in priority even if not accepted • If new courses are developed to meet TMC, a Substantive Change Report needs to be filled with ACCJC (repackaging okay)
