  26. Scribble STEM Equations & Diagrams with Sonocent Reviewing audio is a fantastic technique if you're an auditory learner or struggle to take written notes, but it’s not always practical for the, well, practical elements of your course. If you’re recording an experiment or taking note of quantum theory equations, Audio Notetaker’s audio function probably won’t cut it. That’s where Scribble can make all the difference for STEM students. Here are some simple suggestions for using the Sonocent Link app to study STEM subjects:

  27. CONT…..Scribble Feature: 1. Jot down equations and diagrams: Start a recording with your Sonocent Link app using your tablet or mobile device. When you need to take note of an equation, graph or diagram you can then swipe right and choose ‘Scribble’. Just draw straight onto the screen, adjusting the color and thickness of your pen as you need to. If you make a mistake, the eraser button is there so you can start again. Even better, you’re able to link your scribbles to the audio being recorded at the time. This makes it even easier to return to review your notes, jumping to the key parts as and when you need them. 2. Take photos of experiments and lab work: It’s just as easy to capture and annotate photos. As you’re recording, you can hit the camera icon at the bottom of the screen or swipe right and ‘Tap to take a photo’. You might want to record an experiment, take pictures of equations on the board, or record primary or secondary evidence. Once taken, you can then highlight key details on the image. Just tap the ‘pen’ symbol and annotate directly onto the photo.   3. Use pins to make structured notes: Whether you scribble down an equation or snap a photo, with the latest update you’re also able to use pins to help structure your notes. In Edit mode, hit the ‘pin’ symbol at the bottom and add a set of tags to the image. You might want to label different components, include keywords or create step-by-step stages of the experiment. Once complete, your notes will then form a numbered list in your text pane. So, when you come to review your notes, you’re already a step ahead with quick references to signpost important information.   Once you’ve finished recording, you can upload your Project onto your desktop or campus computer. All your Scribbles and photos will be there alongside your audio and notes - it’s that easy.

  28. Technical Information: • Audio Notetaker itself is a little over 100mb • Recording audio at the default setting is 14.4mb per hour but with slides etc the projects will be a little bigger.  • For reference, a project with 2.5 hours of audio, text notes and 230 slides is only 92mb. • All of the files will be saved onto the computer hard drive but you could use an external USB storage device to save any projects if the available memory is limited. • Windows – Version 3.2 onwards • Mac – Version 2.8.4800 onwards

  29. Build Your Ability To Listen: • Intention: come to class with the purpose of listening & learning • Be prepared: read text, review prior notes • Responsibility: responsibility for interest lies with you, not the speaker • Position yourself: • Sit where you can hear and program records best • Position yourself so you are engaged • *Sara Henry – ATIA 2017
