  2. The Periodic Law • states that repeating physical and chemical properties of elements change periodically with their atomic number.

  3. Organization of Periodic Table • Valence electrons- Electron found in the outermost shell of an atom and determines the atoms chemical properties. • Group- vertical column in periodic table • Period- horizontal row in the periodic table.

  4. Main Group Elements • The main-group elements are the elements in the “s” block or “p” block of the periodic table.

  5. Alkali metals Alkaline-Earth metals Elements in Group two are called the Alkaline-earth metals. Beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium. • Elements in Group one are called Alkali metals. • Lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, and francium make up group one.

  6. The Halogens The noble gases Elements in group 18 of the periodic table are called the noble gases. Helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, or radon. • Elements in group 17 of the periodic table are called the halogens. • Fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine.
