  2. Growing Up Digital • Digital Native – First generation to grow up surrounded by technology • Students today are all native speakers of the digital language of computers, video games and the internet. (Prensky 2001, Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants)

  3. Where does that leave the rest of us? We are digital immigrants! • The language of technology is unfamiliar and foreign • Immigrants often spend time grousing about the “old country” • We have a “digital accent” http://www.flickr.com/photos/andyi/2402001517/

  4. What do we need to change? • Methodology • Must learn to communicate in this new language • How do students communicate? • Texting • Social Networks (ie. Facebook and MySpace) • Wikipedia/Wikispaces • Blogging and Microblogging (Twitter) http://www.flickr.com/photos/asimzb/4289976493/

  5. Content • How do you allow your students to get content in your classroom? • Students don’t want to sit and wait for knowledge, they want to actively go out and find it on their own.

  6. My Top 6 Web tools • Animoto • Xtranormal • Twitter • Glogster • Prezi • Google Earth
