Development in context • Understanding the course of human development – what occurs universally, what occurs individually • Dimensions of development: cognitive, social, emotional, physical • What influences that change, or development that occurs naturally within the individual (nature) and what influences that change that occurs dependent on the context or environment (nurture) • Specifically interested in influences from the family and the community (and this includes friends, school, the larger community)
