  1. The Alice Syndrome Story-1 Wow, that’s the biggest, grossest zit I have ever seen!!! Alice is 16 years old. It’s Wednesday morning. Alice’s life is wonderful because she has a blind date tonight. Now it’s particularly wonderful because not only does Alice have a blind date, but she has a blind date with a guy who she has been told is hot and fun and who she really wants to meet! So, at 6:30 on Wednesday morning, Alice get up, walks into the bathroom, flips on the light looks in the mirror……and the entire world disintegrates right there around her. What happened? Right here, on the end of her nose, Alice has the biggest pimple that has ever existed on the face of the earth. Well, it’s obvious that there are only two choices for Alice now. She can either go on the date with a bag over her head, or she can not go on the date at all. Obviously, there are no other alternatives, be cause if she goes on the date with this pimple on her nose what’s going to happen? Her date is going to do what? He will spend the entire evening staring at the pimple on end of her nose. He probably won’t even want to kiss her for fear of touching it by accident. And….he will probably never call her again! Is that really what’s going to happen? Of course not. That’s Alice’s perception of what’s going to happen. What Alice has done is what all of us have a tendency to do. We take the one negative factor, we focus on it, and nothing else exists in our life for us except this one huge negative factor. No matter what it is.
