  2. 1 7 3 Entertainment ▶Reading Comprehension Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Back in the 1980’s, Oliver Stone made a movie called “Wall Street” which was a social commentary of the way American business operated during that generation. The character of Richard Gekko (Michael Douglas) was a personification of that time and culture. His speech in the movie about greed being good perfectly encapsulated the thought process of that decade. Now Oliver Stone has returned with a sequel of sorts starring ShiaLeBeouf who is a young go-getter type who happens to be dating Gekko’s daughter. The movie “Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps” portrays 2008, typified by the global economic collapse and begins with the release of Richard Gekko from prison. Jacob Moore, played by ShiaLeBeouf, is a day trader down on Wall Street working for a large banking firm. The movie explains easily about Wall Street without difficult financial concepts. The audience really get a sense of how business is done down on Wall Street and how simple rumors and speculation can send a strong investment firm plunging into bankruptcy. Oliver Stone is famous for making films with a direct message about the negative parts of the society. He said that the cyclical nature of capitalism that creates financial bubbles was what motivated him to make a new version of ‘Wall Street.’ ”The major banks were the bad guys and they should have gone to jail but they didn’t and very few were fired. We live in an era of no blame, no fault. It is part of the modern disease. Life goes on, people fall in love, people marry and have babies and in that time, you see new bubbles rise.” Stone said. ☞ Choose the best answer based on the article.
