  4. What is Heart Failure? • Heart failure is a term we use to describe a set of symptoms that occur when your heart fails to deliver as much blood and oxygen around your body

  5. What is Heart Failure? • Having heart failure means that for some reason, your heart is not pumping blood around the body as well as it used to.

  7. What causes Heart Failure • Damage can be sudden or it can happen over months or years

  8. Some causes of heart failure are: • Heart attack • High blood pressure • Problems with your heart valves • Irregular heart rhythm • Drinking too much alcohol • Disease of the heart muscle – cardiomyopathy

  9. Main symptom of heart failure = Fluid retention

  13. Shortness of breath or increasing shortness of breath

  14. Needing more pillows to sleep

  15. Awaking at night breathless
