  3. Visual Guidance • Show the skill (video, photo, pictures, demonstration) • Must be clear • Demonstrations must be repeated • Must be good quality

  4. Who is it for? Visual Beginners – allows them to see what the skill should look like

  5. Verbal Guidance • When the performer is told information about the correct technique • Must be clear • Must be short and concise

  6. Who is it for? Verbal Experienced performers – e.g. coaching during a football match

  7. Manual Guidance • When the coach physically supports the performer to get them into the correct position e.g. tennis coach holding the racket arm through the forehand

  8. Who is it for? Manual Beginners and inexperienced players

  9. Mechanical Guidance • When the coach uses equipment to support the performer E.g. using a float when learning leg movements in swimming

  10. Who is it for? Mechanical Used when situation is dangerous

  11. 4 Groups – Select the type of guidance and justify why. • Football manager wanting to change formation of the team half way through the first half of a match • A gymnast performing a vault for the first time • A netballer learning how to shoot for the first time • A snooker player hitting a ‘break’ shot
