  1. What is Marching Band really like? Welcome to the South River Seahawk Marching Band!

  2. Marching Band combines 3 elements: • Sound (Music) • Movement (Marching/dance) • Visual effects (props, costumes, equipment, etc.)

  3. Who is in charge of this? • Wind instruments • Percussion (drumline/battery, front ensemble (“the pit” • Color Guard (flags, rifles, sabres, other props) • Drum Majors (Senior and Junior) • Band Lieutenant (sometimes called a “field lieutenant”) • Electric instruments/sound effects (guitar, bass, piano, sound fx generator, computer) • Singers/vocalists

Where did this come from? • Military field bands • Brass Bands from Europe • Military Drill teams • D.C.I.= “Drum Corps International-” professional level musicians, mostly college level between ages 17-22. Highest level of artistry possible in Marching Band. • D.C.A.= “Drum Corps of Associates,” for players over the max age of DCI. • Drum Corps are primarily “Drum and Bugle” Marching Bands comprised of all Brass, electronic, and percussion instruments. • Collegiate Bands= More diversity of instruments than Drum Corps, larger numbers.

  13. But here in the SR Marching Band, we do things a little differently… • Our vision is to produce a Marching Band show of which we are proud, that we all work hard to achieve, and that will be filled with the music to which our audiences will recognize, love, and sing-a-long!
