  2. Agenda • Rapid e-Learning • Non-linear PowerPoint • Lab exercise: Prototype design

  3. Rapid e-Learning The need for rapid development and deployment Rapid e-Learning defined Market of Rapid e-Learning Rapid e-Learning tools

  4. The need of rapid e-learning (Walsh, 2006; De Vries & Bersin, 2004) • Time is everything • Time for development • Time to market • Subject matter experts are free to develop content independently • Cost saving • Increased ability to respond rapidly to organizational needs • More efficient use of subject matter experts • Greater control over updates and maintenance

  5. Types of e-Learning (De Vries & Bersin, 2004) • Traditional • Focuses on the KSA’s desired to achieve • Objectives based on extensive needs assessment • Strategic • Focuses on development or change management within an organization • Corporate training oriented • Rapid e-Learning • Shorter life-cycle • SME as content provider, author, and prototype developer

  6. Rapid e-Learning Defined (De Vries & Bersin, 2004) Internet-based training Usually used for corporate training and knowledge management Courseware which can be developed in less than three weeks Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) act as the primary resource for development A well-know tool (e.g. Powerpoint) or user-friendly templates form the starting point for courseware Simple assessment, feedback and tracking provided; Media elements which enhance learning but do not create technology barriers may be included (e.g. voice) Learning modules can be taken in one hour or less, often in less than 30 minutes Synchronous (live) and asynchronous (self-paced) models may be utilized

  7. Rapid e-Learning Process • Analysis • Identify time, financial, technological constraints • Identify learning needs • Identify learning management platform • Design • Prototype design • Implementation • Put the course into the learning setting • Verification • Test for internal quality • Usability testing • * View prototype at any phase

  8. Market Share (Bersin, 2005) • 2005 statistics • Traditional e-Learning: 36% • Strategic e-Learning: 28% • Rapid e-learning: 36% • 2008 forecast • Traditional e-Learning: 35% • Strategic e-Learning: 15% • Rapid e-learning: 50%

  9. Some Tools for Rapid e-Learning Microsoft Office PowerPoint Camtasia (錄下電腦畫面操作軌跡) Macromedia Captivate (將多媒體訓練素材檔轉成Flash呈現 ) Microsoft Producer (多媒體簡報創作)
