  1. Worship is the Thank You that cannot be silenced – Max Lucado

  2. Replacing Anxiety with Joy

  3. Anxiety • A state of apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from the anticipation of a realistic or fantasized threatening event or situation, often impairing physical and psychological functioning • In the Greek (merimnao) – to be divided or distracted in a way that impairs ability to function

  4. Things we worry about: • Death – our own or someone elses • Disobedience and sin • Relationship issues • Decisions • The future • Finances • School, Education, Vocation • Etc

  5. Matthew 6:25-34 • Jesus mentions anxiety 6 times in 9 verses • 25 – don’t worry (anxious) • 27 – which of you by worrying (anxious) • 28 – why do you worry (anxious) about clothing? • 31 – Therefore do not worry (anxious) • 34 – do not worry (anxious) about tomorrow, sufficient for the day is its own trouble (anxiety)

  6. The five problems with anxiety

  7. Keeps you from enjoying what you have • Verse 25 – Jesus declares I’ve got those covered • Take the moments to rejoice in what He has already given you • We will need to choose to focus on the gifts He’s already given us

  8. It steals away your worth • Verse 26 – Look at the place of the birds, look at the place I’ve given you • You are far more valuable to God than those • Because you’ve got a Spirit • Has He not demonstrated time and time again that you are more valuable than those?

  9. It drains your energy • There are a number of things we cannot generate – more energy and more time • The only way energy is realized is if something else gives it off (Newton’s 1st law) • You are a steward of the energy you wake up with every morning • Verse 27 – no matter how much energy you put into it, you won’t get any taller….sorry Leisha

  10. It chases the promises of God away from your mind • What will I wear, what will I eat, will I have enough stuff, what car will I drive, how will I fix up the things that need fixing around my house….. • Solomon was not arrayed like the lilies of the field…and it is so invaluable to me, it gets thrown in the oven tomorrow • 1 Kings 4:22-28

  11. It’s a characteristic of unbelievers • Verse 32 • Unbelievers concern themselves with all the cares of this world • Unfortunately, so do many Christians • So….worry is a sign of unbelief • But there is an antidote

  12. The Silver Bullet • Jesus – loud, clear, and in red letters: • But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you

  13. The FREEDOM!!!! • Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. • Robert Burdette wrote: There are two days in the week about which I never worry. Two carefree days, kept sacredly free from fear and apprehension. One of these is days is yesterday, the other is tomorrow
