  2. Parking & Transportation ServicesMission • To provide parking options and promote transportation alternatives for faculty, staff, students and visitors at the University of Arizona.

  3. General PTS Information • 180 employees (68 students) • $15 million annual budget • An Auxiliary department • Less then .2% University funding • Manage 18,000 parking spaces for a 50,000 person campus population

Project Benefits Connects major activity centers Extends UA campus & expands student housing Connects major research and health care facilities Adds 1,480 long term jobs Connects transit with easy swipe, one fare card Creates more parking options Reduces greenhouse gases Oasis Plaza Centro El Presidio, Peach Properties

  19. Project Update Construction began April 2012 City awarded contract in early March 2012. UA team working closely with City to develop intergovernmental agreements for construction, real estate, operations & maintenance. First and Second Streets have become 2-way streets (see map) Access will be maintained as much as possible to key campus areas Park Ave. from 2nd to University closed November 12th for several months

Construction Overview • Old Pueblo Trackworks selected as contractor • 475 days of construction – complete summer 2013 • Multiple crews working multiple locations • Underground utility work and overhead & track installation • Maintain business and pedestrian access • Olive and Highland underpasses will remain open, Warren underpass will be closed until February 2013. • Have worked closely with stakeholders along route.

  22. Benefits include: • Better wayfinding & orientation; • Traffic-calming effect; • Safer for pedestrians & bicyclists; and, • Improve access & egress for garage and other properties. First Street to be converted to two-way traffic during construction on Second Street and kept two-way to alleviate traffic congestion Entire length of Second Street from Campbell Ave. to Mountain Ave. will become two-way to increase efficiency, especially for Second St. Garage traffic. No left turn into garage going west on 2nd Street. One-Way to Two-Way Street Conversions
