York Aviation What Can the Public Sector Do? • Essentially about developing policies that act on these main pillars for development • Could be about major infrastructure developments such as supporting airport capacity development or improving surface access • Set aside development land for airport expansion or open up sites for businesses requiring airport access • Work with your airports and economic development partners to support route development • Market your region, working with your airports and airlines to deliver a coherent product

York Aviation The Stockholm Experience • York Aviation have been working with Stockholm STRAIR Partnership since November 2005 • Seeking to build on this Framework to develop an action plan to encourage business development in the Airport hinterland • Phase 1: Knowledge Building and Analysis has just been completed

York Aviation The Stockholm Experience Some Background • Stockholm Arlanda handled around 17.1 million passengers and 145,000 tonnes of freight in 2005 • It serves around 80 international destinations, including 6 intercontinental • One of three European hubs for SAS, but not the intercontinental hub • The Stockholm region is a successful international region, recognised as a world leader in innovation and a centre for knowledge based industries • One of the most successful regions in Europe in terms of the attraction of inward investment What is the problem?
