LEIF Founded in 1996 by the Ministry of Environment; main task – to support public and private sectors in realization of environmental projects and projects to reduce the negative impact of economic activities on environment. On 2 December 2003 (order of the MoE) LEIF has been authorized to carry out the function of GHG Registry and JI projects administration. Climate Change Division was founded in 2005. Main institutions for JI in Lithuania Ministry of Environment (organises and coordinates execution of Kyoto Protocol Joint implementation mechanism ); Ministry of Economy (coordinates JI projects in energy sector); Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund (LEIF) (JI Project Idea Note‘s submission for its Supervisory Board for the initial evaluation, JI project registration, transactions of respective Kyoto units).
