  2. Recap • Camera Framing- Where do you capture the MOTION? • Mise-en scène- What MOTION, or lack of motion, are you capturing? • Editing- How much of the MOTION is seen?

  3. Camera Framing • Framing a shot is to determine how your audience sees the subject in MOTION. • This is made up of 5 major parameters: • Camera Distance • Centered/Decentered Framing • Camera Angle • Depth of Field (Perspective Relations) • Camera Movement or Mobile Framing

  4. Mise-en-Scène • Translates to “placing in the scene” • This refers to every thing you see in the frame of an image • Perfect authorship or auteurism is to have a purpose for every single object in frame • Includes: • Setting • Props • Costumes and Make-Up • Colours • Performance

  5. Editing • “Film is truth at 24 frames a second, and every cut is a lie.” –Jean Luc Godard • “The first cut is always the deepest” –AmnonBuchbinder • We can’t cut from theatre but we can from film. • Use your cuts wisely! • Make sure that you maintain a rhythm and a sense of continuous MOTION

Successful Advertising • Expressing a single thematic element that draws in the viewer into understanding what the product represents • Apple: “Think Different” commercial • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmwXdGm89Tk • This is not a tribute to these great people • This is saying that Apple is equal to these great people • A reason to trust Apple as a consumer

  8. Brainstorming Session • Product: A black box • Target Consumer: Everyone! • Time allotted: 30 seconds • Shots allotted: 9 shots (Make each one count!) • Brainstorming Deadline: 2:20 pm. • Storyboard Deadline: 2:55 pm

Let’s Think • Don’t think about what the product does, think about what it represents • What is the core theme behind the use of the product? • Why would you want to leave your couch RIGHT NOW and go purchase this product? • What is it that entices the masses to take out their hard earned money to purchase your product?
