    3. Overview A tremendous burden has been placed on school districts throughout America by the inclusion of illegal immigrations in such programs. Overcrowded classrooms, additional tax burdens and the need for bi- lingual teachers are just a few of the problems. At present the educational system is in a crisis mode. In this presentation I will support the theory that explains the illegal alien problem as part of the general environment in which it is found.

    5. Introduction Immigration is a contentious issue in the United States currently. Why all the fuss? In the last few decades we have seen rising numbers of immigrants, both legal and illegal. The massive inflow of immigrants, especially Hispanics, has had profound impacts on our economic, social, and political systems. The significant fiscal costs associated with illegal immigration are not inevitable. While the federal government has the primary responsibility for enforcing immigration laws, state and local governments have a role to play that can either discourage or encourage illegal immigrants settling in their area.

Introduction cont While the nations lawmakers are tackling the immense problem of immigration, and while many illegal immigrants are protesting the possible consequences of being in the USA illegally, there has been little talk about how illegal immigration has impacted education. Illegal immigration has impacted the educational system immensely by placing the burden of inclusion of overcrowded classrooms. Is this fair to the teachers; however the federal government are trying to implement laws to cease this problem.

    7. Illegal Immigration There are two "magnets" which attract illegal aliens are jobs and family connections. The typical Mexican worker earns one-tenth his American counterpart, and numerous American businesses are willing to hire cheap, compliant labor from abroad; such businesses are seldom punished because our country lacks a viable system to verify new hires' work eligibility. In addition, communities of recently arrived legal immigrants help create immigration networks used by illegal aliens and serve as incubators for illegal immigration, providing jobs, housing, and entree to America for illegal-alien relatives and fellow countrymen.

    8. Illegal Immigration Cont Since their labor is cheap the workers brings their families over and enrolls the children in public schools. This poses a problem because of the language barrier and the over crowding of classrooms. Since FERPA illegal immigrants has taking advantage of the school system

    9. Statistical Information The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) estimates of January 2006 ? Severn million illegal aliens live in the United States, this number grows by half a million in a year ?In 2005 for example, the INS estimates that 968,000 new illegal aliens settled in the U.S. This number was offset by 210,000 illegal aliens who either died or returned to their home, 63,000 who were removed by the INS, and 183,000 illegal aliens who were given green cards as part of the normal legal immigration process.

Statistical Information cont Mexico is the largest source country for unauthorized immigration to the United States Immigration will account for 96% of the students in the school age population over the next 50 years because mass immigration continues. Education cost will continue to escalate and quality of education will continue to decline. About 14% of exceeds their capacity yearly due to illegal immigration

Court Case Plyler v Doe- Education to children of illegal aliens at taxpayers expense of 1982 The Supreme Court ruled stated that illegal alien students are entitled to enroll in our public schools at the taxpayer expense. This ruling was for two reasons: One the ruling was issued when a program was already being discussed, and it was felt that these students be amnestied anyway. Also, these students were small enough in numbers that they posed no threat to the education of Americas student and they financial hardship on the United States taxpayers.

    12. Immigration in Education Illegal immigration is said to have affected the economy in two opposing ways. One group of economists claims the influx has helped the economy. But other economists easily support the argument that illegal immigrants have displaced nationalized or U.S. born citizens and depressed wages, which have contributed to the slump in economic growth of the United States. In education illegal immigration has over crowed the public school system. Research has showed on the bright side for immigrants that because of ability to fluently speak more than one language that their IQs are a little higher than regular students.

    13. Immigration in Education Immigration adds not merely to the total cost of K-12 education, but to per-pupil costs. School districts must hire specially trained teachers and institute new programs. Bringing a student with limited English skills to average performance levels requires spending an additional $10,000 per student, according to a recent case study. Ironically, immigrant students who go through some type of bilingual education appear to earn significantly less than their counterparts in English immersion classes. Many immigrant students drop out anyway. Almost half (44%) of. School violence is more frequently encountered in districts with high concentrations of immigrants. So is remedial education.

    14. Conclusion To help fix the illegal immigration problem we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here The educational system should provide avenues for the overcrowding of the school systems
