Introduction • Why Seal Flushing Is required? • It is normal that a seal is exposed and expected to operate in hostile environments like corrosive, dirty, fluids with abrasive content etc.,. • To combat with such attacks, a new friendly environment is created around the seal, thereby isolating it from unwanted environment. • Secondly, heat generated due to friction between the sealing faces shall be removed from the source continuously.

  3. Why Seal Flushing Is required ?(contd) In short, flushing is provided in a seal for • To control dirt. • To heat or Cool the seal area ( wherever applicable). • To create a friendly atmosphere for the area where seal is operating. • In some conditions, to keep away the product itself from the SEAL entirely!

  4. The Secret to achieve satisfactory seal performance lies in creating a proper environment for the seal to operate. • THE CREATING SUCH AN ENVIRONMENT- WHOLLY OR PARTIALLY IS POSSIBLE BY PROVIDING FLUSHING

  5. FLUSHING • Flushing can be defined as the introduction of a liquid into the stuffing box at a higher pressure than stuffing box pressure to eliminate the friction in between mating ring and cool the part’s .

  6. FLUSHING • The most common methods of flushing are: • BYBASS FLUSING. • EXTERNAL FLUSHING.
