  6. Opened Fall 2007 8th and 9th Grade ~1200 students Allow middle schools to be only 6th and 7th grades and LSHS to be only 10, 11, and 12th grades

  7. 240,000 sq. ft. $66.8 million Will become 2nd high school in Lake Stevens – no date set Four two story learning wings Classrooms in each wing: 10 general, 3 science, 1 multipurpose, and 1 teacher planning room. 2 art, 2 music, 2 CTE labs, 6 comp. labs, 1 library, 4 special education rooms.

  9. Cavelero Program Facts: Six Period day schedule Middle school curriculum for 8th graders (option for high school credits) and high school curriculum for 9th graders Choice Challenge programs Full interscholastic athletic program for 8th and 9th grades

Registration Process • School visits – Monday March 5th at NLMS and LSMS Students  received Registration Forms and Course information. • These materials should have been brought home yesterday. • On-line registration all day – Thursday March 8 @ LSMS and NLMS  • Decisions for you and your student:    1. Electives Choice   2. Challenge classes

  12. ATTENDANCE • Parents… • We consider daily attendance paramount to student success at Cavelero Mid High School • Encourage your student to make every effort to attend class • By working in partnership we can provide every opportunity for student academic achievement

ATTENDANCE • Students that exceed 10 absences during a semester in any class will LOSE CREDIT in that class. • Attendance Retrieval • Students can retrieve up to 5 absences in any class – must be excused absences only • Unexcused absences may not be retrieved • Tardies • 3 tardies equal 1 absence – count towards total accumulated absences in determining credit eligibility

ATTENDANCE • Parent notification via automated phone call and/or email generated through Family Access • To excuse an absence, parents must provide a written note OR a phone call OR excuse online via Skyward Family Access • Notes must be received within 3 days of the absence • Students must sign out in the Attendance Office when leaving school early – note required

CHALLENGE PROGRAM Students who are successful in Challenge/Advanced classes: • Plan to take challenging classes such as Advanced Placement throughout high school career. • Exceeded the standard (LEVEL 4) on their previous year’s MSP tests in the area they are registering for. • Read at least two grade levels above. • Commit to an average of 30 minutes of homework each night (per subject). • Demonstrate strong organizational skills; completes assignments and turns them in on time. • Are highly motivated.

CHALLENGE PROGRAM Students who are successful in Challenge/Advanced classes : • Take responsibility for his/her own learning; asks teacher for help/clarification when needed. • Work both individually and in cooperative groups. • Tolerate frustration as part of the learning process. • Are more concerned about learning than the “A” grade. • Can commit to the rigor of the course for the entire year. • Think critically (synthesize, apply, evaluate, etc.) PLEASE THINK ABOUT: • Time Commitments outside of school day (examples: select sports, youth groups, music lessons)

  24. CHALLENGE SCIENCE - Understand the Scientific Method. - Accelerated in math or working at or above the 9th grade level.

  25. CHALLENGE ENGLISH - Understand the basic elements of writing. - Truly enjoy/have a passion for reading.
