Language Arts • FUNdations Orton Gillingham based program: reading, writing, and spelling trick words. • Journeys reading-weeklystories • Accelerated Reader –read and take comprehension quizzes online • Guided Groups-Practice skills in leveled groups • Writing-Grammar skills and writing workshop for narratives and nonfiction writing.

  6. Mathematics • Eureka- APS adopted math program that enhances our math curriculum and standards. • Zearn.org-Aligns with Eureka math

  7. Science • Weather and changes in water • Light and Sound • Plant and Animal needs • Landforms

  8. Social Studies • Continents and Oceans • Long ago and Today • Historical Figures • Economics • Our location in the world

Technology • mybackpack.apsk12.org: The children can access the online book library, Brainpopjr, and many other sites. • Kidsa-z.com (RAZ KIDS): Assigns your child a reading level and books to read at that level. The children can listen to the story or read it themselves. • Zearn.org: A math site that aligns with our Eureka math program. The kids play games, watch videos and strengthen math skills

  10. International Baccalaureate Program As an IB school, the curriculum at Jackson focuses on: *global and cultural awareness *inquiry and conceptual based teaching *positive character attributes and attitudes *central ideas that connect our subject areas *student-led action

New Initiative: PBIS • Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports • Purpose: To establish common expectations for behavior throughout the school. • Focus: Behavioral expectations (Essential Agreements) linked to IB • R – RESPECT yourself and others • O – Own your COMMITMENTS • A – Act with EMPATHY • R – Radiate INTEGRITY • Uses Class DoJoto reinforce students’ positive behavior • House System to a promote sense of identity and belonging while encouraging school spirit.

Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics Enhances our IB PYP program by emphasizing critical components of the IB program already occurring--  • integration across the curriculum • project-based inquiry • local and global awareness • Preparing students for future careers & jobs Interested in volunteering or do you work in a STEAM career?   14. Housekeeping • Label everything- Clothes, back packs, lunch boxes, etc. • Sign Up Genius- volunteering opportunities, parent reader, classroom donattions, and conferences • Conference days- October 4th and 5th
