  11. West Wilkes Middle and High School 2010-2011 Bus Rules and Regulations • Riding the bus to and from school is a privilege provided by the Wilkes Co. Board of Education. Appropriate behavior on the bus is necessary if a student wishes to continue riding the bus. Inappropriate behavior may result in having to find another means of transportation to and from school. Suspension from the school bus does not permit or provide an excuse for the absence of a student. • Students shall at all times obey the directives of the school bus driver. Failure to do so may resort in losing the privilege of riding the bus. The following violations will not be tolerated: Improper boarding/departing procedure, destruction of property, failure to remain seated, refusing to obey the driver, fighting/punching/tripping, hanging out the window, horse playing/rude/discourteous/annoying conduct, bringing injurious or objectionable articles aboard, throwing objects, lighting matches or smoking/dipping/chewing tobacco, unnecessary noise, tampering with bus equipment, and behavior relating to school bus safety and the well being and respect of others. • Major incidents such as fighting, gross insubordination, and throwing objects on the bus will result in an immediate 3-10 day suspension from the bus depending on the administration’s judgment on the severity of the incident. Depending on the severity of the problem, suspension and/or expulsion from the bus may occur immediately at the discretion of the administrator. • The rules are to be followed by all students who ride buses. The procedure for dealing with bus problems is as follows: • The driver will warn student(s) when inappropriate behavior occurs. • Each driver will document behavioral incidents and conference with the student. • If the behavior continues, the driver will complete a discipline referral sheet and turn it in to administration. • Administration will conference with the student, contact the parent/guardian, and decide upon discipline measures. • Repeated visits to administration will result in temporary suspension from the bus. • After three separate suspensions, the student will be suspended off the bus for the remainder of the school year. Suspensions usually occur in 3, 5, or 10 day intervals. ***Students will not be permitted to go home with other students due to possible overloading of buses. Students will not be allowed to board any transportation other than the one assigned. These situations require prior written approval from the administration/office. ***Thank you for helping us to provide a safe ride for our students. P. Huffman/L.
