  2. APPR OVERVIEW All New York State schools must differentiate teacher and principal effectiveness using four categories: Highly Effective, Effective, Developing, Ineffective The law specifies that at least 40% of a teacher’s and principal’s score should be derived from student achievement data.

  3. HOW WAS THE KLSD STATE APPROVED PLAN DEVELOPED • A committee comprised of teachers and building and district level administrators worked collaboratively to develop the plan that was approved during the summer of 2012. • Likewise, the Principal APPR plan was developed collaboratively between the district and building level administration.

  4. HOW IS THE 2013-2014 PLAN DIFFERENT THAN THE CURRENT PLAN? • The most significant change to the teacher plan relates to our categorization of Lead Evaluators. • The new plan expands this pool to include Assistant Principals and Directors. • There were no significant changes to the Principal APPR plan.

CATEGORIES OF TEACHER EVALUATION • Knowledge of Students and Student Learning Teachers acquire knowledge of each student and demonstrate knowledge of student development and learning to promote achievement for all students • Knowledge of Content and Instructional Planning Teachers know the content they are responsible for teaching and plan instruction that ensures growth and achievement for all students • Instructional Practice Teachers implement instruction that engages and challenges all students to meet or exceed the learning standards

Categories of Teacher Evaluation Cont. • Learning Environment Teachers work with all students to create a dynamic learning environment that supports achievement and growth • Assessment for Student Learning Teachers use multiple measures to assess and document student growth, evaluate instructional effectiveness, and modify instruction • Professional Responsibilities and Collaboration Teachers demonstrate professional responsibility and engage relevant stakeholders to maximize student growth, development, and learning

Educational Leadership Policy Standards • Facilitates the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by all stakeholders • Advocates, nurtures, and sustains a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.

  9. Educational Leadership Policy Standards • Ensures management of the organization, operation, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. • Collaborates with faculty and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.

  10. Educational Leadership Policy Standards • Acts with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner • Understands, responds to, and influences the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.

  11. NEXT STEPS • As of September 1, we must re-certify our APPR Plans for the 2013-2014 school year to the New York State Education Department. • Once we have received and processed all data from the current school year we will use that to drive any future changes to the plan.
