  1. Luke 15:25-32 25"Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.

  2. Luke 15:25-32 27'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.' 28"The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.

  3. Luke 15:25-32 29But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

  4. Luke 15:25-32 30But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'

  5. Luke 15:25-32 31"'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'"

  8. Luke 15:1-2 “Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “ This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

  9. We Need to Know These People • They had a false sense of authority • They had a false concept of ministry • They had a false concept of greatness • Grace was not a word in their vocabulary

  10. The Elder BrotherLuke 15:25-32 • Sought information from a servant • Became angry • Refused to join the celebration • Refused father’s plea to join them • Was disrespectful of his father

  11. Look at the Elder Brother • The elder son was self-willed • He was also self-righteous • He was self-centered • He was just plain selfish

  12. Look at the Elder Brother • He was angry • He was hateful • He was jealous • He was a judge

  13. If Elder Brothers are still around, what do they look like? • Would they go in search of their brother? • Would they be able to recognize their lostness? • Would they realize they were living by law?

  14. If Elder Brothers are still around, what do they look like? • Would resentment be their most obvious emotion? • Would it be obvious they are ingrate? • Would they be identifiable by their loneliness?
