  5. 80’s 1981 – Started as a punk rock band w/ Michael Diamond, Adam Yauch and two others 1983 – Adam Horowitz joins the band. 1983 – Beastie Boys record their first hip hop track “Cooky Puss” 1983-84 – Success of “Cooky Puss” prompts switch to hip hop 1984 –Adopt hip-hop monikers 1985 – Hire rick rubin as Dj Rubin Starts def jam record and asks to produce Beastie Boys

  6. 80’s 1986 – record and release license to ill #1 on Billboard for 5 weeks Fight for your right Reaches #7 1987 - Controversial world Tour 1988 – Switch to Capital Records 1989 - Paul’s boutique – Tops at 14 on billboard
