What is a digipak? • The official definitions of a digipak is “a type of packaging for CD’s or DVD’s, typically made from cardboard with an internal plastic holder for one or more discs. • In other words, it is the design used on a CD or DVD cover as a way to enforce advertisement and branding in order to attract attention and boost sales • For a music album CD there is a registered trademark of AGI media.
The front • The front of a digipak is arguably the most important part in terms of grabbing attention. • The picture or design on the front will often be an image of the artist, or have a connection to them or the album in some shape of form. • The name of the album or song, and usually the artists name (slightly smaller) somewhere in the frame. • Example – Katy Perry ‘Smile’
The back • Usually, the back is where you will find more information such as: • The track list • Album name • Artist name • Album artwork • Record label • Barcode • AGI stamp • Extra infromation
inside • On the inside, as well as the cd itself (in a clear sea through holder) you will find some more album artwork. This artwork will flow with the rest of the theme. It may also be something such as a close up photo of the artist or the artist pulling a pose. • On top of all this, some artist like to really go over the top by adding in some extra bits to personalize their Digipak so fans get more then they expect. This could be something like a personal message or added information.
