  2. A life cycle is a series of stages that occurs in all living things. Plants go through a life cycle to reproduce.

  3. Flowers are a very important part of this process. Let’s take a look.

  4. Let’s dissect a flower to see its parts. You will need: Flowering Plant Observation Sheet Tape and scissors 1 flower from a plant. We will be using a flower called “Alstromeria”.

  5. Petals – Attract birds and bees to the flower.

  6. Remove these! Do not remove this yet.

  7. pollen Stamen – Contains the anther and the filament Anther – the place where pollen is made Pollen – male cells that fertilize the egg to become seeds Filament – Supports the anther

  8. Pistil – contains the stigma, style and ovary (contains eggs) Stigma – catches the grains of pollen (sticky) Style – tube where the pollen will travel to fertilize the eggs Ovary – location of the eggs (ovules) Eggs / Ovules – will turn into seeds if fertilized by pollen

  9. Stem – Supports the entire flower.
