  2. When and where was she born? • Clara Barton was born on December 25, 1821. • She was born in her house. • She was born on Christmas day!

  3. What was her early life like? • Clara was 4 when she started school. • Clara moved to a farm when she was 8 years old. • Clara’s brother David taught her to ride a horse when she was 5. (but they probably didn’t have too much time on school days!)

  4. What were her accomplishments? • Clara got the Germany Iron Cross for helping in the Franco-Prussian war. • Clara spent most of her life helping people.

  5. Why is she famous? • She was president of the Red Cross for 23 years. • She helped both white and black men in the war.

  6. Where and when did she die? • She died in her home in Washington. • She died in 1912. • Clara was 91 years old when she passed away.

  7. How is she remembered? • There’s a monument for Clara in Maryland.

  8. Interesting facts! • Clara (when she was older) lived in Washington DC. • Clara loved cats and one day the president sent her one to thank Clara for her work. • She was at college when her mother died. • The Red Cross organization is still active today.
