  1. MAE Academy Website Update Lynn Parnell Fri, 25 Feb 2011

  2. Overall Appearance, Links • Current “official” website is the same format as before with addition of updated pdf’s to download. • Principle feature is documents available for download (pdf, word,…) • Current links will continue, but following format of “test” site • 2 protected links • members – will continue with new format • board – will be replaced per Council desires • New features are in the test site (http://mae.nmsu.edu/~parnell/test/) • First page of test site is a “work in progress” as I resolve CSS “fight” between the NMSU standard and Academy-focused iWeb tool • A back-up Apple site will continue to be used to resolve issues with the MAE Dept server (http://web.me.com/laparnell/MAE_test1/) • End stage of whole Academy site is TBD • A collaborator in this area is welcome. I will add a note to that effect will on the site. Academy Website, Feb 2011

  3. Organization of Test Site & Commentary • MAEA Home • Look and feel are my design. • Comments are welcome, viz: compliance with Dept style • at top level (planned) • at lower levels (not my plan, due to ease of using iWeb tool) • About us • My choice of material I found in documentation available on server. • Additional info that could be added: history, … • Leadership • Council • 3 principles per their description (Industry Advisor (& IAC) TBD) • Initiatives – 4 currently identified • FE Exam write-up is done. • Need “ready-to-post” material for all others. • Photos • These are publicly accessible by policy. I need input from the members to: • Confirm use of the current photo or provide replacement • Provide 1-paragraph bio – ready-to-post • Contact known members whose photos are missing Academy Website, Feb 2011

  4. Going Forward Issues • Purpose & activity level needs specificity • I will work with Leadership • Suggestions & commentary from members welcome • Submit these directly to the site • LAP priorities: • communication among Academy members • “market” the Academy to prospective recruits, Dept, CoE, University • Overall impression needs attention • See observation below • LOE required to develop & maintain • Two examples: • MAE Dept: Jim V., ~ ½-hr/week IF there are active contributions • NASA NCCS: 0.2 FTE Web Designer on continuous basis Academy Website, Feb 2011

  5. One Website Observation(Michael Reischman <mmreischman@gmail.com> ) • It is an excellent start on the communication tool that the academy needs. • But I must say the MAEA looks a bit haphazardly constructed and disjointed--not because of the web site but more due to the materials incorporated. • If I am a new member, I see a lack of structural coherence and participation by the general membership. I'm afraid those things are not good. • But, again, let me say the web site itself is a great start on a very important communication tool. • Share my thoughts if you like. Academy Website, Feb 2011
