  2. Community Planning in the 21st Century • Trends to consider: US population will grow by 70 million people by 2030. The US population is aging. The US population is challenged by several disturbing health trends. Today’s zoning laws effectively trap 30% of the population in housing pods. Citizen’s are demanding more services from their elected officials and public servants at a lower cost. The US faces an automobile dominated future. Americans love to volunteer. Community planning sessions feature trails in the community.
