  1. RedHat 7.2 & the OS Chase Thomas Naughton Oak Ridge National Laboratory naughtont@ornl.gov

  2. OSCAR / RedHat versions • LUI based • v1.0 = RedHat 6.2 • v1.1 = RedHat 7.1 • SIS based • v1.2b4 = RedHat 7.1 • RedHat 7.2? • v1.x – v2.0 = RedHat ?

  3. LUI & SIS (IBM slide info) • LUI • Includes DB of cluster info • Scriptable base commands • Build machine from description • SIS • Image is an active filesystem • System Installer: front end build tool (LUI for imgs) • SystemImager: image propogation • System Configurator: Smooth arch & Linux distro diffs

  4. OSCAR 1.2 • Several requests for RH7.2 • Low priority b/c little diff from RH7.1 • Little diff also good reason to go ahead and add • What’s involved to change RH versions • SOON: Hooks for RPM arch / version not fully added • NOW: Manually adjusted rpmlists / 2.5 scripts / test… • Additional tools • Several emerged recently (this week)

  5. Questions? • Do we want to completely depend on SIS for software upgrade (rpm versioning) especially for those wanting to use the Hybrid approach? • Add intelligence to scripts / ODR for dependency analysis • How do others handle requests for new RedHat versions?
