  2. About Vangeboskolen • Public school in Denmark • 45 teachers and 18 social workers • 500 students • Aged from 6 to 16 years • Food Station is initiated by the very dedicated Board • Vision transformed into practice by Project Leader Ulla Jensen • …Headmaster – and substitute! – René Glud Jensen

  3. Educational social-cultural project • To create a cafeteria with the students • Focusing heavily on ”you are what you eat” • Instil in the students a genuine and ”down to earth” attitude and enjoyment of ”real” food • To have an open and frank dialogue concerning attitudes and behaviour relating to the culinary experience • To supply the students with healthy values regarding food on the ”journey of life” • Enhance and augment the students imagination, creativity, and sense of taste

  4. Teams and resources • 12 classes participate in the project • 1/3 of the students participate cooking activities in the kitchen at a time • Duration: 3 weeks for each class – that is each team cooks for 1 week • The food is sold in the cafeteria

  5. The food…! • We only use seasonal vegetables and fruit • Daily home baked bread • Every day there are fresh mixed salads • Dessert on Fridays…! (René´s favourites…) • Alternating between served portions and buffet • Both cold and hot dishes • Beverages: Water with fresh lemon

  6. Goals and criteria for success • That the students have experienced the project week as being one that is fun, exciting and interesting • That the teaching staff are ”fully onboard” so that the students experience that the project is a natural extension of the normal curriculum. • That the parents express a positive attitude about ”Food Station”

  7. Goals and criteria for success - continued • That the students experience an improved concentration span and an improved ability to assimilate new material • That the students experience a social paradigm shift through the new manner in which they interact. • That in long run, the project will contribute to the positive image of Vangebo school.
