  2. Teacher Education Admission • Admission to Teacher Education is separate from admission to KSU.

  3. Teacher Education Admission Criteria • Completed ENGL 1101 & 1102 with grades of C or higher • Satisfied the Regents’ Reading and Writing Requirements • Completed 45 semester hours of coursework from accredited institutions • Passed or Exempted GACE Basic Skills

Exemption from GACE Basic Skills • SAT – Min. 1000*(Critical Reading/Verbal + Math) • ACT – Min. 43*(English + Math) • For GRE and additional exemption options, visit www.gapsc.com * SAT scores prior to April 1, 1995, and ACT scores prior to 1989, were “recentered,” typically adding points. See the certification officer for additional information. • Official supporting documentation required if not on Owl Express

  6. GACE Basic Skills Assessment current testing through August 2013 • Reading, Writing, and Mathematics tests • All tests have multiple choice questions • Writing test has an impromptu essay • Passing score required for each test • Online registration: www.gace.nesinc.com

GACE Basic Skills Assessments Through August 17, 2013 The August 17, 2013, GACE administration is the final opportunity to pass GACE Basic Skills assessments with the current supplier (ES) to count for certification. If an examinee does not have passing scores on all tests within an assessment by the last administration of the GACE program with ES (August 2013), the examinee must take all tests within an assessment with the new supplier (ETS), even if a portion of the assessment was previously passed.

GACE Basic Skills Assessment current testing through August 2013 • You may register for 1-3 tests for each remaining testing date (July – August) • Each GACE testing session (paper-based) is four hours in length. • The tests are not individually timed, and you may spend the entire four hours on one, two, or three tests for which you registered. • Registration processing fee ($25) must be paid for each test administration (plus $25 for each test). • You must successfully pass all three assessments (Reading, Writing and Mathematics) through the August 17, 2013, testing or take all tests with the new supplier.

Take later? • When do you need to be admitted to teacher education? • Do you have several semesters of courses remaining in your program that do not require teacher education admission? • Are you prepared to take the assessments? • You must pass all three parts by the August testing, or you will be required to take the entire new GACE Basic Skills assessments. • What will the new Basic Skills Assessments cover? • Reading, Writing, and Math Can I still retake the SAT or ACT for possible exemption?   12. Teacher Education Admission Criteria • GPA Requirements • ≥ 2.75 KSU AGPA (adjusted GPA) • AND • ≥ 2.75 Education Transfer GPA (ETGPA) • ETGPA includes general education (Areas A- E) and lower division courses required for major

Teacher Education Admission Criteria EDUC 2110with grade of C or higher Cleared Background Check A positive teacher recommendation • EDUC 2110 Instructors have three choices: • Recommended or • Recommended with reservations or • Not recommended • You do not need to request the recommendation from your EDUC 2110 instructor

Teacher Education Admission Criteria • Professional, responsible behavior in all classes, field experiences, and interactions with peers, faculty, and staff • Positive evaluations in field experiences • Satisfied any additional admission requirements specified by a major • ARED, FLED, HPE, MUED students…see your department advisor for additional program requirements

Teacher Education Application • Obtain an application at TEAC (KH 1314) or online at https://education.kennesaw.edu/teac/ • KSU Advisor’s Signature: ECE, MGE and History Education – signed by TEAC • Attach receipt for the $20.00 TE Application fee(cash or check paid at Bursar’s Office in Student Center or online through KSU MALL ). • Return completed applications to TEAC (KH 1314)

  16. Teacher Education Application DEADLINES • For Spring 2014: Sept. 15 • For Summer 2014: Feb. 15 • For Fall 2014: April 15 • You do NOT have to have completed all the requirements for admission to the teacher education program at the time of application
