Vocabulary #1 • Latitude- lines that run east and west, and measure north and south on a map • Longitude- lines that run north and south, and measure east and west on a map • Equator- 0 degrees latitude, separates the Earth into north and south hemisphere’s • Prime Meridian- 0 degrees Longitude, separates the Earth into east and west hemisphere’s

  2. Vocabulary # 2 • Migrate- to move from one country or region to another • Abundant- having a lot of something, maybe more than is necessary • Liberty- freedom or independence from random government • Conclusion- your decision based on the information given to you

  3. Vocabulary #3 • Cash Crop- a product grown on a farm whose main purpose is to be sold for a profit • Colony- any people or territory that is controlled by an external (outside) government • Mercantilism- an economic theory that states the more trade a country controls, the stronger the country • Quaker- a religious group that believed everyone was equal, and that everyone possessed the power to guide themselves to heaven.

Vocabulary #4 Monarchy- rule by one person, either a king or queen also known as royalty Parliament- the law making body in England; similar to Congress in the U.S. Enlightenment- an 18th century set of ideas to spread knowledge, logic, and science to improve the world Levy- to collect, typically associated with collection of taxes.

  5. Vocabulary # 5 Quartering- allow soldiers to stay in your house Boycott- a protest that refuses to use or buy products Ambassador- a representative of one country living in another country Propaganda- information designed to influence your opinion
