  2. 1960s • British rock bands, such as The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, and The Who modified rock and roll, adding to the standard genre harder sounds, heavier guitar riffs, and louder vocals.   4. 1980s • In 1980, Led Zeppelin disbanded after the accidental sudden death of drummer John Bonham, who died of asphyxiation after consuming too much alcohol. Bon Scott, the lead singer of AC/DC, also died in 1980 for similar reasons.
