  6. What are the choices available? • RCVS Awards committed to closing its doors to new registrations once there is a choice of more than one AO • Staying with RCVS is not an option • CQ has VN Council Approval • C&G requires VN Council approval • College’s have to make a choice between C&G and CQ

  7. What is the impact on employers? • Cost neutral • College’s timetable their own exam schedule • Approved TP status • All places of training (TP’s) registered with C&G • College’s remain responsible for their own students • RCVS will continue to publish TP list • RCVS will quality assure TP standards and approval • RCVS will not permit a lowering of standards

  8. What is the impact on students? • No changes to College course • Students transfer from RCVS Awards to C&G • Significant reduction in costs for transfers • MCQ papers online at college’s (less travel) • OSCE’s at college (less travel and less stress) – NOTE – Under discussion!!! • RCVS will audit C&G/CQ OSCE’s standards • Possible but unlikely requirement for some students to take both sets of OSCE’s!

  9. Transferring a student • No transfer cost to student or employer • No change in course delivery • Assessments outstanding will be under C&G requirements not RCVS • C&G exams use RCVS exam questions • Student agreement required

  10. What is the impact on Colleges? • Added relationship of replacing one RCVS performing two roles with two separate bodies • Qualification administration all online • Very fast turnaround by C&G • Registration • Exam entries • Exam results (MCQ) • OSCE’s - we will wait and see!

  11. Money Matters - Costs • Overall slightly cheaper • BUT Costs loaded at start • RCVS SVN registration £190 (reducing to £160 in 2013) • £200 C&G student registration fee • Thus start cost = £390 per student • Thereafter; • 3 MCQ exams - £18.10 each • 1 set of OSCE’s - £210 each

  12. When is this going to happen? • C&G expect to get qualification approval from RCVS VN Council by the 1st September • New students will register with RCVS professional body and C&G prior to course starting • Existing CAW students requested their agreement to transfer – 2nd week August • CAW aims to complete exit from RCVS Awards by July 2013

  13. New RCVS Processes • Can register either with awarding body or RCVS professional body first • Must not be a gap between the two greater than three months • If greater than three months RCVS registration is restarted – pay fees again! • RCVS registration can be back dated to application date • RCVS will significantly speed up NPL release (days not weeks)

  14. CAW Programmes September 2012 Existing students no change to programme schedule Full time Veterinary Nursing • Induction period extended (under review!) • Year 1 - 2 days in college • Year 2 – 1 day in college Day Release • Currently 3 academic years • Moving to 2 calendar years day release (1 day per week in college) plus blended learning Fast track applicants will be given choice
