  2. Mercury • Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and it’s 35 million miles away from it. • It is the smallest planet we know. • Mercury has no satellites orbiting around it. • Mercury might have ice on it’s surface.

  3. Venus • Venus is the 2nd planet closest to the sun. • The planet was named after the roman goddess of love and beauty. • It orbits earth for 224.7 days. • The planet is 67 million miles away from the sun.

  4. Earth • Earth is the only planet that contains life and is the only planet that can support life. • Earth formed 4.54 billion years ago. • Life first appeared on earth 1 billion years ago. • This planet and the life it supports has suffered numerous of mass extinctions, The worst mass extinction happened at the end of the permian period it’s nicked name “the great dying” wiping out 96% of marine life, 70% of vertebrae's, and it’s the only known mass extinction of insects.

  5. Mars • Mars is 141 million miles away from the sun. • The planet also orbits for 687 days. • The age of mars in 4.5 billion years old. • The planet mars lacks an ozone layer. • During winter on mars, 20% of the air freezes.

Jupiter • Jupiter is 483 million miles away from the sun. • It’s orbital period is 12 years • There are only 9 hours in a day on Jupiter. • Jupiter is 4.5 billion years old • Jupiter is a very stormy planet. • You would weigh more if you were on jupiter than earth because jupiter has more gravity.

  7. Saturn • Saturn in 890 million miles away from the sun. • Saturns orbital period is 29 years. • Saturn in the 2nd largest planet in the solar system. • Saturn is the only planet that can float in water. • A day on saturn in 10 hours and 9 minutes. • Satun is 4.5 billion years old.

  8. Uranus • Uranus is 1 billion miles away from the sun. • Uranus has 27 satellites . • Uranus in the 3rd largest planet. • Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system. • Uranus is 4.5 billion miles away from the earth • Uranus is 4.5 billion years old.

  9. Neptune • Neptune is 2 billion miles away from the sun. • Neptune is 4.5 billion years old. • Neptune only has 16 hours and 9 minutes in a day. • Neptune is a planet of gas. • Neptune has 13 moons.
