  2. The Sixth Commandment • How could we summarize this commandment? • Love for God's gift of marriage and family

  3. What does God want us to know? • Genesis 1:27-28 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

  4. What does God want us to know? • God made man and woman • He gave the gift of sex to be enjoyed by husband and wife.

  5. What does God want us to know? • Genesis 2:18,22-24 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

  6. What does God want us to know? • God created marriage • Marriage = • 1 man + 1 woman • United for life!

  7. What don't we want to do? • 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

  8. What don't we want to do? • Sin against our bodies or against anyone else's body • Adultery = • Married person has an affair • Fornication = • Living together and having sex outside of marriage • Homosexuality = • Having sex with someone of same sex

What don't we want to do? • Ephesians 5:3-4 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

  10. What don't we want to do? • Talk about God's gift of sex improperly • Dirty jokes • Dirty talk about someone else

  11. What don't we want to do? • Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

  12. What don't we want to do? • Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality…

  13. What don't we want to do? • Don't even think improper thoughts • TV shows • Magazines • Movies

  14. What do we want to do? • Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

  15. What do we want to do? • Think, talk and act the way God wants about his gift of marriage and sex

  16. What do we want to do? • Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

  17. What do we want to do? • Save God's gift of sex for marriage.

  18. What do we want to do? • Genesis 24:1,3-4 Abraham … said to the chief servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, 3 "I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, 4 but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.”

  20. What do we want to do? • Matthew 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.

  21. What do we want to do? • Be faithful until death

  22. What do we want to do? • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

  23. What do we want to do? • Glorify God by taking care of our bodies

  24. The Seventh Commandment • How could we summarize this commandment? • Love for God's gift possessions

  25. What does God want us to know? • Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it…

  26. What does God want us to know? • Everything belongs to him. • He shares what he owns with us!

  27. What does God want us to know? • Matthew 25:21 His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!"

  28. What does God want us to know? • We are stewards (caretakers / managers) of our possessions.

  29. What don't we want to do? • Ephesians 4:28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

  30. What don't we want to do? • Take what does not belong to us: • Robbery / theft • Shoplifting • "Borrowing" • Waste

  31. What don't we want to do? • 2 Kings 5:20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, “My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”

  32. What don't we want to do? • Get things dishonestly • Fraud • Cheating

  33. What do we want to do? • 1 Timothy 5:8 If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

  34. What do we want to do? • 1 John 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

  35. What do we want to do? • Thank God for what we have • Help family • Help fellow believers • Help poor

  36. What do we want to do? • 1 Corinthians 10:24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

  37. What do we want to do? • Take care of and protect others' property.

  38. How do we give to the Lord? • 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

  39. How do we give to the Lord? • 2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

  40. A Christian Gives to the Lord • Gladly and willingly because we love Jesus

  41. How do we give to the Lord? • 1 Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.

  42. What do we want to do? • Regularly (weekly) and quietly. • A percentage of your income • Tithe = 10% of what God gives you
