  2. Welcome to 4th Grade! • Welcome to our 4th grade classroom! • Save all questions for the end of the presentation. Today, is not the day for conferences!

Our Goals • To give our students the academic and social skills they need to progress. • To provide our students with strategies to show mastery in all subject areas. • To provide your child with a safe and secure learning environment and to discover new interests. • Instill a love for knowledge and learning.

  4. Class Subjects • The subjects we cover in 4th grade are: • Math • Science • Social Studies • Reading • Language Arts

  5. Math, Science, and Social Studies • We will cover all of the necessary skills needed in fourth grade. MATH • Fourth grade Math can become difficult and it is imperative that your child master their times tables in order to progress successfully! Have them STUDY every night!

  6. Math Websites • GoMath Florida Book www.thinkcentral.com (Username & Password is student ID) • Mathletics www.mathletics.com (Username & Password is glued in front of student agenda)

  7. Science • Textbook • Science Studies weekly • Labs/Science experiments are to be completed using the scientific process. • Study guide is usually provided for all assessments. • Science Lab templates are provided on the class website: www.somi4.com Social Studies • Your child will be learning about the beautiful state we live in. • We will be using Florida Studies weekly newspapers. • All tests are Open Newspaper (Comprehension)

Reading Language Arts • Vocabulary Quizzes • Reading Comprehension Quizzes • Reading Plus login.readingplus.com * Most of the tests will be open book! • Grammar • Writing Essays (FCAT • Practice Prompts) -Expository (write to explain) - Narratives (write to tell a story) We follow the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards/Common Core.

  9. Spanish, Music & Art • Spanish/Mandarin(daily): Senora Guzman /Senora Campillos • Music: Mr. Suarez • Art: Ms. Mulet • P.E. (30 min. daily): Coach Sanchez / Coach Eric • Assistant: Ms. Janelle (shared with 4 teachers and middle school)

  10. Homework • We assign homework Monday-Friday (sometimes on weekends. Ex. projects, labs, reports). • Your child is responsible for copying down their homework daily in their agenda. • Your child’s homework is due daily. • If you miss homework assignments, your child may loose a privilege. Ex. Silent lunch • Some homework assignments may be graded. • H.W. Breakfast Club Quarterly (dates are tentative)

Attendance • It is VERY important that your child comes to school everyday. • If your child is absent, send a note from home or a doctor. • Notes submitted more than 72 hours after your child’s return to school will not be accepted, and the absence(s) will be deemed unexcused. • After 3 unexcused absences, your child will receive a referral. • For every 10 handwritten excused absences, your child will receive a referral. • If your child is absent, it is their responsibility to ask the teacher for their make up work.

  12. Tardiness • School starts at 8:30 a.m. • If students aren’t in the classroom by the time the announcements begin, your child is considered tardy. • If a student is tardy 10 times, they will be issued a referral.

  13. Dismissal • Students who wish to be dismissed (on a regular school day) are required to provide proof of a medical/dental appointment within 48 hours of such appointment. • Notes submitted more than 48 hours after an early dismissal will not be accepted, and the early dismissal will be deemed unexcused. • After five (5) unexcused early dismissals, the student will be issued a referral form that will be placed in the students’ permanent record. • Please try to not pick them up early. They will be missing valuable instruction!

Tests, Quizzes, Graded Assignments • Students will be informed when they will be tested. • Tests or quizzes will be given on a weekly basis. • Quizzes may be unannounced. • Class work may sometimes be graded. • Projects are assigned ahead of time. *It is the students responsibility to copy down assignments and tests in their agendas.

  15. Tests • If a students earns a C, D, or F on a test or quiz: • A copy will be sent home • Parents must sign the paper attached • You may keep the copy of the test to be used for review.

  16. Field Trips We will be going on different field trips this year. (currently being scheduled) One field trip per quarter. Only 5/6 parents are allowed to attend. (Subject to change according to field trip location) You can sign up to volunteer for 1 trip. Everyone will have an opportunity to attend 1 field trip.
