  3. Zechariah chapter 3 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 2 And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?”3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. 4 Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.” 5 And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him. And the Angel of the LORD stood by.

  4. Zechariah chapter 3 • 6 Then the Angel of the LORD admonished Joshua, saying, 7 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘ If you will walk in My ways, And if you will keep My command,  Then you shall also judge My house, And likewise have charge of My courts; I will give you places to walk Among these who stand here. 8 ‘ Hear, O Joshua, the high priest,       You and your companions who sit before you,       For they are a wondrous sign;       For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH. 9 For behold, the stone That I have laid before Joshua:       Upon the stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave its inscription,’

  5. Zechariah chapter 3 • Zechariah chapter 3 continues the vision started in Chapter one verse 18.  This is the fourth vision in the series; here scripture shows the High Priest named Joshua , who was involved with Zerubbabel, the governor, in laying the foundation for the second Temple.

  6. The elders • Who is Joshua the High Priest - First person chosen to be the High Priest for the reconstruction of the Jewish Temple after the return of the Jews from the Babylonian Captivity - Joshua son of Josedech served as High Priest 515-490 BC - The biblical text credits Joshua among the leaders that inspired a momentum towards the reconstruction of the temple. (Ezra 5:2)

  7. List of High Priests From the Exodus to the Babylonian Exile • Aaron, during the Exodus from Egypt • Eleazar, son of Aaron • Phinehas, son of Eleazar • Abishua, son of Phineas • Shesha, a son of Abishua and father to Bukki according to the Samaritans. • Bukki, son of Abishua-ancestor of Ezra • Uzzi, son of • Eli, descendant of Itamar, son of Aaron [1] • Ahitub, son of Phinehas and grandson of Eli • Ahijah, son of Ahitub • Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, High Priest during the reign of King Saul; killed at Nob by Doeg; part of the curse on the House of Eli - that none of Eli's male descendants would live to old age - was fulfilled with the death of Ahimelech. • Abiathar, son of Ahimelech, High Priest

  8. List of High Priests • During and after Babylonian Exile   • Seraiah  (586 B.C.) • Taken captive to Babylon (2 Kings 25:18) 586 B.C. • Josedech (Jehozadek) • Did not serve as High Priest in Babylon • Joshua  (520 B.C.) • First High Priest after Babylon  Haggai 1:1,12 • Joiakim • High-Priest by implication, not specifically called High Priest • Eliashib  (444 B.C.) • Grandson of Joshua, High Priest during the time of Nehemiah. Interesting Facts Joshua: (Also spelled Jeshua) the name means, “Jehovah is salvation”, [w the more famous Joshua is the successor of Moses, Joshua son of Nun (Numbers 11:28).  This Joshua is the son of Josedech, of the priestly line; his father did not serve as High Priest since his grandfather the High Priest Seraiah was taken captive into Babylon in 586 B.C.  Joshua son of Josedech returned with Zerubbabel from Babylon. He along with Zerubbabel began the construction of the 2nd Temple (Ezra 5:2). Time of the vision is unknown. Joshua never spoke in the bible • In 1825, the traditional tomb of Joshua was reported to have been found at "one hour's distance from Baghdad

  10. images • Types of images 1. External: album, face book, memory 2. Internal not seen, opposite, 3. Spiritual

  11. Judgment day Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. Judgment day: Scary, embarrassing, Justice Are You Ready?????????????????????

  12. You are Chosen • 2 And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” • Do you consider yourself a brand Plucked from the fire? • John Wesley (quote)

  13. Jerusalem • Joshua returned to Jerusalem to restore the order of priesthood which has stopped for over 70 years. • He returned to the service to a desolate city full of dust. • People were in the worst conditions spiritually/physically • Joshua returned and he put on the beautiful Priesthood attire. However, that is not what we see in the vision.

  14. Man’s vision • 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. 4 Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” • Our material Vision is Myopic • Ex: the moon, water drops • “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

  15. Compulsion vs. Willingly • Man is very proud of his outward appearance: Fancy cloth, jewelry, but he is naked in the eyes of God. • In Revelation: to the angel of the church of the Laodicea'swrite • 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked Story of the monks worshiping.
