  1. The Designers CDM Compliance Kit PRODUCT OVERVIEW www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  2. This presentation has been prepared to provide users and potential purchasers of the Designers CDM Compliance Kit with a brief overview of the product and the benefits it offers www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  3. Overview • TheDesigners CDM Compliance Kit has been specifically designed to assist designers to comply with their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM).  • The software has been written by practising designers and safety professionals who have a detailed understanding and knowledge of both the construction industry and health and safety legislation. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  4. What does it do? The software assists/prompts designers to: • Make clients aware of their duties • Give due regard to health and safety in their design • Cooperate with the CDM Co-ordinator and other designers  • Provide information about the health and safety risks, and hazards associated with their designs to those who may need it • It also provides an audit trail of the actions taken www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  5. How is this achieved? This is achieved in a variety of ways including: • The provision of checklists which outline the duties and roles of the designers at each stage of a project • Acting as an aide memoir to ensure designers are both aware of the actions they need to take and providing an auditable record of the actions taken • Enabling Design Safety Statements (DSS), Design Safety Reviews (DSR) and Design Risk Assessments (DRA) to be prepared, these provide an ideal mechanism to share information with other parties www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  6. How is this achieved? (Cont.) • The provision of example documents (MS Word format) which can be accessed at the appropriate work stage by clicking on the shortcut button located at the side of the appropriate checklist item • Documents which can be edited and amended by the user and are entirely customisable to allow for the specific requirements of individual practices to be catered for • Links to the other modules within the Compliance Kit are also provided, this enables users to quickly switch between modules as and when required www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  7. HSE Inspecting Designers • As most designers are aware, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have recently undertaken a number of high profile audits and inspections of designers • These audits revealed an alarming number of failures and deficiencies in the way designers fulfil their duties under CDM • HSE research shows that up to 47% of construction related accidents could be prevented or mitigated against if designers were more aware of their duties www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  8. Ensuring Compliance • Whilst the Designers CDM Compliance Kit will not make your designs safer, it will help you to manage the design process and make users more aware of their duties and obligations under CDM • Furthermore the integral audit facility will allow Project Managers, Safety Managers and Company Directors etc. to review and assess the actions taken by their designers during the development of their designs www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  9. Features & Benefits • The following slides provide more information on the key features and modules of the Designers CDM Compliance Kit • Whilst we have not included all of the features and modules included within the software, we feel that the following slides should provide a comprehensive overview of the product and its features • The only computer skills you need to operate the software is to know how to point a mouse, click the mouse button’s and use the keyboard to type in text www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  10. Once loaded, the first screen you will encounter is the Main Switchboard. This enables users to view supporting information, create a new project, open an existing project or exit the software. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  11. Whenever you open an existing project or create a new project, you will see the Project Safety Record HOME PAGE. This screen provides you with links to each of the software modules and information associated with a particular project. By entering the Project Title and No. on the Home Page, it is automatically transferred to each of the other modules. To access the project data, simply click on the relevant button on the left hand side of the screen. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  12. The first module is that of the Design Safety Statement, this should be prepared at the start of a project (and updated as necessary) and is used to specify any key information such as the general design criteria and parameters. It can also be used to record details of any existing information that is relevant to the project and which may restrict the design or generate specific hazards. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  13. The Project Directory is simply used to record the details of the key parties involved in the project, this includes not only the core design team, but also other designers, the Principal Contractors and other key contractor who will be involved in the project www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  14. The main element of the software consists of the audit records for each of the project stages. This informs users of their duties and the required actions whilst enabling a full audit record to be prepared. The buttons on the right hand side of the screen provide a link to the MS Word documents and other modules within the Designers CDM Compliance Kit. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  15. Another key element is that of the Design Risk Assessment (DRA) module. This assists designers to identify hazards and those affected, whilst also enabling a rapid assessment of the risk to be carried out. This module also enables the actions taken during the design and any additional control measures to be recorded. Each assessment is carried out on a separate page and there is no limit to the number of assessments which can be completed. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  16. To enable the effective transfer of information between the designer and others such as the CDM Co-ordinator, Principal Contractor and other designers, information such as the DRA’s can be printed off as shown here, or alternatively it can be exchanged electronically as Adobe Acrobat Files (PDF) or Microsoft Document Imaging Format. Neither of these format’s require the recipient to have access to the Designers CDM Compliance Kit. To create electronic files you need to have the Adobe Acrobat Software or Microsoft Document Imaging loaded on your PC. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  17. The Design Safety Reviews enable key information relevant to the hazards associated with the project to be recorded. Separate DSR’s can be completed for each project stage and the information provides a useful format for sharing the information with other project members. www.SafetyServicesDirect.com

  18. Application and Use • The Designers CDM Compliance Kit can be used by designers, design managers, projects managers and others responsible for the management and coordination of design safety matters • The software enables the facilitation of regular reviews and compliance checks to be made to ensure an organisation is complying with its duties under CDM and is providing sufficient information regarding the hazards generated by its designs www.SafetyServicesDirect.com
