  12. Scale of the Disaster • Minor disasters • Small number of items are damaged • Minor disruption to the library service • Significant Disasters • Large number of items are damaged • Closure of sections of the library, or the entire library site

  13. Minor Disaster Response • No immediate need to have a Disaster Response Team • Any staff member can make immediate decisions or actions

  14. Significant Disaster Response • Build Emergency Response Team

  15. Roles of Team Leader • Ensure the staff and public safety • Make decisions • Update information • Contact other staff for help if necessary • Source tools and assistance from other departments or organizations • Media update

  16. Roles of Team Member • Obey directions of the Team Leader • Providing clear evacuation instructions • Salvaging essential library materials • Photograph and records the damage prior to treatment • Report updated information to the Team Leader • Protect materials from further damage

  17. Disaster Recovery • The size and nature of the disaster • The degree of damage • The priority and nature of affected materials

  18. Disaster Recovery • Where to work, where to relocate the collections • Get maintenance and repair work done • Treatment options • Counselling support • Pay attention to late evidence • Records down the disaster details • Contact insurance company

  19. Review the Plan • After each disaster, minor or major • After each training session • Whenever anyone learns something new
