Focal Plane Assembly Version F • This is the “Hot ham sandwich” configuration. • Early thermal studies by Pat Jelinski suggests that Thermal strap cross sections can be significantly smaller. • FPA / Optics bench interface designs are currently underway and will have a major impact on mounting schemes for the electronics Hot Ham Cold Sandwich

Focal Plane Assembly Version I • This is the “Diced Ham” Option • …And, as before, • FPA / Optics bench interface designs are currently underway and will have a major impact on mounting schemes for the electronics “Diced Ham” chunks The MCT detectors will get a similar treatment (different electronics, same general package geometry)

  8. Hotplate concept Heaters on or near the Optical bench maintain the Primary Mirror at operating temperature. Further work has been postponed until thermal studies sharpen the requirements. The configurations already in the model reflect studies on how to install or service the heaters with the Primary Mirror in place.

  9. Cassegrain MaskCassegrain Guider Optics In the current model, both of these systems utilize a common structure at the Cassegrain focus. Cassegrain Focal plane mask Will get more detailed when Mike Sholl looks into the IR performance. Guider Optics integrate nicely into the current model. Other configurations have been studied.

  10. Optics Bench/Focal Plane Assy Interface A number of scenarios have been envisioned. All of them have huge impact on FPA stability, packaging, servicing, and GSE requirements. Current designs assume that the Cryo/Shield and the Coldplate assembly are integral to the Focal Plane Assembly and have a common interface to the Optical Bench A “Hard Ring” configuration is shown on the FPA version H model A Three point mount is being developed by Matt Hoff from concept by Bobby Besuner
