  3. WHAT Alternative Programs of Distinctionis a process to highlight exemplary practices in Kentucky’s alternative education programs, where awarded programs will serve as models for others to replicate across the state.

WHO • We encourage the nomination of all types of alternative programs. • District alternative programs (A5) • KECSAC programs (A6) • Blended A5/A6 programs • Off-site and on-site programs NOTE: Per the updated guidance on 704 KAR 19:002 issued by KDE in October 2018, the Individual Learning Plan Addendum (ILPA) is required for students in all alternative education programs. If your program is not currently meeting the requirements regarding the use of ILPAs in this regulation, your application will not be considered.

WHY Public acknowledgement and celebration of the hard work of your staff and students Recognition at the Kentucky Board of Education meeting and featured in the Kentucky Teacher Serve as a model program for other alternative programs across the state Participate in the Alternative Programs of Distinction Cadre (a professional learning community) twice per year

HOW • Click here to submit the APoDFirst Round Application • If your program encompasses multiple types of alternative programs under one umbrella, please complete a separate first round application for each program you wish to have considered. • The narratives on the first round application will determine the programs we select for a site visit. Even if you think KDE is already familiar with your program, please be sure to include specific details in all requested areas of each narrative.
