  2. GS115C-102.6 • Original legislation passed in 1994, with projected funding of $365M over 5 years • Created the School Technology Commission as oversight body

GS115C-102.6A • The State school technology plan shall be a long-term State implementation plan for using funds from the State School Technology Fund and other sources to improve student performance in the public schools through the use of learning and instructional management technologies. The purpose of the plan shall be to provide a cost-effective foundation of flexible and long-lasting technology to promote substantial gains in student achievement.

  4. Amended in 2005 • Mandated yearly monitoring of LEA technology plans by DPI with • Non-compliance reported to NC State Board of Education

  5. GS115C-102.6 requires that DPI/SBE submit a new State Technology Plan every 5 years, with plan revisions every 2 years until the next cycle. • The federal government requires that each LEA submit a separate E-Rate budget (aligned to the LEA tech plan, submitted and approved by DPI) every year as part of a system’s E-Rate application.

  6. Revisions The State Plan revision is being completed collaboratively via a wiki set up by DPI with the assistance of representatives from ITS and 17 LEAs .
