XchangePoint History • February 2003: Hamburg site live • January 2003: 70 customers on London platform to date • May 2002: Switched first IPv6 traffic • February 2002: First interconnect with another IXP • October 2001: Successful completion of beta trial • June 2001: Launch of interconnect platform • March 2001: First site operational • February 2001: Funding secured • October 2000: Core team recruited • August 2000: Company founded

  3. Recent Growth and Current Status • Now 70 customers • see http://customer.xchangepoint.net • Includes: • 5 major ‘PTT’s • major US OLSP • 20+ other European ISPs • 30+ small UK ISPs • choice of transit from over 10 major ISPs • Ethernet circuit providers • ADSL aggregation providers

  4. Interconnect Architecture • Present at multiple co-location sites per city • Dark fibre metro ring connecting all sites in city • Black Diamond 6808i or Alpine 3804 switches • DWDM equipment • Gigabit Ethernet between switches and sites • 10-Gigabit capable

Current Traffic - http://traffic.xchangepoint.net • Switched traffic: • public & private • peering & transit • Remains steady at 250-300Mb/s • Significant growth in demand for inter-site DWDM private interconnect traffic • Mixture of Gigabit Ethernet and SDH STM-1/4/16 • ~10Gb/s DWDM port capacity provisioned to date • DWDM between 4 original sites • Adding CWDM for additional 3 sites

Recent Developments • Formal interconnect agreement with LoNAP • .uk secondary name server live • Upgraded all switches to ExtremeWare 6.2.2 • build 56 less painful to upgrade to than build 27 ! • Amending AUP to allow controlled connection of 3rd-party switches and ethernet circuits • Transit Marketplace remains highly successful • next eventLondon 27th February • Close to securing funding for additional European cities • at least 2 more during 2003
