  4. Why crewing ? • Crewing is probably the most common way for people to discover sailing, through a friend or family member • Crewing is probably the most cost effective way to discover sailing. Most club members do not own a boat – they crew for someone else • Crewing is very flexible – you can crew at various levels on the sailing pathway, in various roles, and supplement your sailing with courses to develop sailing skills • Crewing can be very time effective – especially after work/ twilight crewing

Crewing ….by any name ? • Keelboat or Dinghy • Racing (various levels) or social racing / cruising • Week or weekend • Twilight crewing / sailing – everything gemba said new participants want • Fun & friendly participation rather than pure “racing” • No large commitment – either membership or time • Weekdays or weekends • Adventurous but safe
