  1. Child and Teen CheckupsMulti-Culture Poster and Video Projects Funded by: The Minnesota Department of Human Services Child and Teen Checkups Program

  2. Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC) is the Minnesota name for the federal Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program (EPSDT); a program for children and teens under the age of 21 who are enrolled in Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare.

  4. Project Goals • To raise awareness about important components of the Child and Teen Checkups Program: lead testing, immunizations, health and nutrition education. • To increase the use of the Child and Teen Checkups Program across cultures.

  5. Project Description • The poster project was a collaborative effort of Ramsey County Child and Teen Checkups and the C&TC Metro Action Group. • Workgroup members developed messages to promote C&TC screenings and selected photos to represent targeted cultural communities.

  6. Distribution • The posters have been distributed throughout the state. • Both large and small posters are available at no cost to counties and health plans for C&TC outreach. • Posters are available through the Saint Paul – Ramsey County Department of Public Health web site: www.co.ramsey.mn.us/ph

  8. Project Goals • Increase use of Child and Teen Checkups among African American, Hmong, Hispanic and Somali families. • Create a tool that could be used widely for education purposes that would not require an interpreter and could be distributed statewide.

  9. Project Description • Goal of this project is to educate families about Child and Teen Checkups by producing a series of four culturally specific videos. • Videos are designed for a defined community--each working from a common script that was modified to meet the language and cultural norms of the community.

  10. Distribution • The videos have been customized for and distributed to 99% of Minnesota’s C&TC programs, using their county specific contact information. • Videos are used in outreach to community agencies and for use in clinics.
