Preserving the Zenati Dialect: Lexical Survival in Beni Snous Elders

This study investigates the surviving lexical words of the endangered Zenati dialect among the elderly in Beni Snous, Tlemcen. As part of the Berber varieties in North Africa, this dialect faces severe endangerment due to language shift among younger generations. Through semi-structured interviews and data analysis, the research explores usage related to agriculture, commerce, and daily life. Findings reveal limited domains of use and an absence of intergenerational transmission, emphasizing the need for further research and a future dictionary to document this linguistic heritage.
