  1. WELCOME Mrs. “Ace”vedo’s 3rd Grade Class

Planner • Students copy objectives, homework and announcements every day in their planners. • Parents/Guardians need to sign daily. • The planner is the main form of communication from the classroom to home and vice versa. • The front of the planner has essential information regarding attendance, dress code, as well as other school policies. • Student codes for websites will be placed in planners. • Each student needs a 1-2inch binder to put their planner in.

  3. Homework • Practice spelling/vocabulary and read AR every night. • Homework assignments are due the following day. In order to attend “Fun Friday” (educational games during a small part of our day) students must turn in their homework all week. • Graded homework, tests, other assignments will come home on Fridays OR Mondays in a red “Take Home” folder. Please return to school the next day.

  5. Cafeteria • Students must pay for lunch prior to first bell. • Charges: students may only charge twice. • If there is a two day balance, students will receive a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk. • If you pack your child’s lunch make it a filling and healthy one. 

  6. Reading Garden • Focus Skills include: -Main Idea - Compare/Contrast -Vocabulary - Cause/Effect - Author’s Purpose, -Sequencing - Text Structure/Features, etc. • Visit our reading curriculum website www.macmillanmh.com • Accelerated Reading Program-10% • Class Work (reading/writing log)-10% • Tests/Projects 80% • Social Studies integrated with Reading.

  7. AR • STAR test is given to determine level. Levels are different from JBE. • Students must maintain an 85 average to earn points. • Students must test on more than .5 point books and make 100’s in order to move up a level. • Rewards for AR are given at the end of the 9 weeks at Honor Roll Assemblies. • Fiction books can’t be used while testing. Non-fiction can be used, but still must be read thoroughly prior to testing.

  10. Exploring Science • National Geographic Text • Big Ideas- Science Inquiry, Solar Energy, Space Science, Plants and Animals • Journaling

  11. Testing • FCAT (April) • FAIR (Beginning, Mid, End) • Levy Interim Assessments (Beginning, Mid, End) • Weekly Tests

  12. Other Events and Info. • Wildcat Cash, PBS Store, PBS Events • Fun Friday • Special Areas • Field Day • PTO Program • Field Trip??- “The deadline is the deadline!” • Parent Involvement- SAC representative, Literacy Nights, classroom volunteering, etc.
